GREG CALLAHAM GRAPHIC DESIGN WINS NATIONAL DESIGN AWARDS
Billboard designs for local clients receive honors
Chattanooga, TN - Greg Callaham Graphic Design has won three 2011 American Graphic Design awards. Graphic Design USA, a national trade publication, recognized Callaham's billboard designs advertising Audi Chattanooga, Village VW of Chattanooga, and the Council for Alcohol & Drug Abuse Services.
"It's an honor to be commended by one's peers, especially at the national level," says Callaham. "I also sincerely appreciate the recognition it brings to my clients."
One of Callaham's award-winning billboard designs for Audi Chattanooga features the Audi A5 Cabriolet with the headline "Sunscreen Sold Separately." The other features the tag line "Be Bold" accompanying the new Audi A7, a high performance luxury sedan. "I chose to have a little fun with the A5 design and Audi Chattanooga really got behind it," said Callaham. "The innovation apparent in the A7 struck me as both sophisticated and daring simultaneously, and that's purely bold."
Callaham's billboard design for Village VW is a three-part concept featuring two teaser panels displaying portions of a VW automobile and a reveal panel prominently displaying a photo of the 2011 VW Jetta. "I wanted to use the first two panels to build suspense for the new Jetta and present the pleasantly surprising price point on the third panel," said Callaham. "As drivers approach the board they see part of a car and become interested in seeing the rest of the 'story'."
For CADAS, Callaham created a typical interstate exit ramp sign, but the copy directs the viewer to "Sobriety - Next Exit." Callaham said, "We wanted to let the target audience know they could get off the 'road' they were on and easily find help to address their addiction at CADAS. The exit sign metaphor worked extremely well for conveying that message via outdoor advertising."
For forty years the American Graphic Design Awards, through the editors of Graphic Design USA has recognized outstanding work in the graphic arts community. With 23 categories, winners are honored in areas such as web, billboard, print and packaging, catalog, posters and logo design.

GREG CALLAHAM GRAPHIC DESIGN WINS NATIONAL DESIGN AWARDS
Billboard, Logo and Corporate Identity designs recognized
Chattanooga, TN — Local design firm Greg Callaham Graphic Design has won three 2009 American Graphic Design awards. Graphic Design USA, a national trade publication, recognized Callaham's billboard design advertising National Public Radio’s Morning Edition on radio station WUTC FM 88.1. In addition, his logo design and corporate identity/stationery package for Cardinal Management received national honors.
“I've been a graphic designer for more than 20 years and it’s always exciting and extremely satisfying to be recognized by one’s peers, especially at this level, “says Callaham.
Callaham’s billboard design features an overhead view of a cup of coffee and spoon on a saucer along with the show’s title and schedule on a bright red and orange background. "I chose the coffee cup and sunrise background colors to convey how Morning Edition should be a part of your morning wake up routine,” said Callaham. "A good cup of coffee and listening to NPR on WUTC in the morning is just natural."
For Cardinal Management, Callaham created an abstract shape based on the scarlet songbird to develop a peaked, bright red graphic set atop the company name. “We wanted to express two definitions of the word cardinal; the fiercely loyal bird with which everyone is familiar and, more importantly, 'that on which much depends.' We carried the design over to the company’s letterhead, business cards, envelopes, and Power Point slides to continuously, visually impart the message of Cardinal Management's loyalty and dependability.”
